Industrial Superabrasives
Superabrasives are bonded abrasives developed for grinding hardest and challenging material in industries.
Generally, superabrasives are manufactured using hardest materials available on earth- Cubic Boron Nitride ( aka CBN) and Diamond.
Cutting process in industries is okay to do with normal abrasive products manufactured by high speed steels, PCD, PCBN, ceramics and carbide materials but when it comes to sharpening a surface, these materials are not able to perform task perfectly. That is why super-abrasives needed to perform this hard task in Industries.
Common Uses of Superabrasive Products.
- Shaping hard material and fragile materials such as glass bevellings ( automobile industry and construction industry)
- High precision grinding work for crystals and ceramic components.
- Cutting of silicon wafers
- Shaping saws ( circular shape)
- Shaping Wood work tools
Difference between abrasives and super abrasives
- Superabrasives are more expensive than normal abrasives ( silicon carbide and aluminum oxide)
- Superabrasives grinding wheels are have different constructions than normal abrasives grinding wheels
- Superabrasive wheels are sold in standard grit range as conventional abrasive wheels which is typically 46 through 2000 grit
Bonds used in Superabrasives
Four Bond used in superabrasives:
- Resinoid Bond ( Wheels are fast cutting)
- Vitrified Bond
- Metal Bond
- Single-layer plated Bond
